The Oklahoma attorney general`s office says phone card sweepstakes machines are actually illegal slot machines under state law. An attorney general`s opinion made public Thursday says the machines fit the legal definition of a slot machine. The opinion says the machines allow people to win or lose a thing of value, such as a phone card for long-distance calls or a voucher they can redeem for cash. The machines are commonly located in convenience stores, barrooms, bingo halls and bowling alleys. But the opinion says it is illegal in the state for anyone to possess, sell or lease the machines. The opinion also says phone card machines are considered gambling devices under state law and are subject to seizure by law enforcement authorities. Related News
